Experience

Recent Experience:

Curriculum Development Project Manager
Aventa Learning at K12

My most recent experiences involve both instructional design and project management skills. As a curriculum development project manager, I have been primarily responsible for the development of our online social studies curriculum, from initial planning to final evaluation. However, my responsibilities expanded to the development and evaluation of courses from all subject matters as well as leading efforts to transition our entire catalog of courses onto a new content management system (CMS).

Working both from the main office in Portland, OR and remotely, I have successfully coordinated the simultaneous development of multiple online middle and high school level courses aligned to state content standards.   In this effort, I collaborated with a variety of team members, including subject matter experts (SMEs), reviewers, teachers, audio talent, art/animation/web designers, and content developers.

I consistently facilitate the seamless workflow of project deliverables between all team members to deliver engaging and interactive courses on schedule and within budget.   I utilize instructional design skills to analyze, evaluate, and edit all aspects of course content, including assessments, activities, text and interactive games & tutorials. Due to the high quality of the instruction, engagement, and creativity of tutorials I have designed for our courses, I have created and delivered training workshops to fellow project managers as well as training tutorials for new content writers.

In addition, I am a primary contributor of innovative solutions to improve numerous course development processes as well as enhance the interactivity and instructional quality of our courses. I regularly evaluate existing forms, systems and processes and implement identified solutions.  I also interview, train and supervise the SMEs who write the content for the courses I am responsible for developing.

In each course we create I always try to push the envelope of what the courses could be and encourage my team to strive for excellence by utilizing their particular strengths, expertise and creativity. We look for ways to incorporate current issues and events and leverage the wealth of resources available online, including audio, video, articles, and more. Furthermore, we always use a variety of instructional approaches to ensure all learning styles were considered.

Below are a few of the specific courses (both standard and credit recovery) I collaborated on:

  • Contemporary World Issues
  • Geography
  • American History
  • American Government
  • World History
  • State History Courses (KS, MN, WA, and TX)
  • Art Appreciation
  • English
  • Biology
  • Earth Science
  • Physics
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
